Draw the line
If you are in the throes of trying to find your first few steps in boudoir photography, what you need to understand is the fact that you are able to really define the direction with which you are taking it. It is very difficult to draw the line between what is considered as sexy yet tasteful and what is considered as raunchy or ratchet. There is a very fine line in between. If you are not that experienced in boudoir photography just yet, then you better make sure that you are able to get the input of the other boudoir photographers who have more experience and more knowledge and wisdom than you do. What you may intend to look seductive and classy may turn out to be the exact opposite in a matter of a few misplaced elements in boudoir photography and that is why you need to make sure that this is something that you get to be extremely careful with when you are going through this. Although the subject may just go along with the shoot, you don’t really know if you will get any objections from the spouse, if any. You have to understand that it is not simply between you and your subject. There will be other people looking at the shots that you take during your boudoir photography shoot and you need to be mindful about that because it is a fairly sensitive issue.
Have a long talk
Have a good and long talk with the subject that you will be shooting with for your boudoir photography project. Ask her about where she would like to draw the line or push the limits on various things. As the expert in boudoir photography, you need to be sensitive with her needs about the things that she is comfortable in and the things that make her feel a little awkward at the end of the day. Although you are the one who is in control of the camera, you are basically still just a medium for what she is trying to implement during the boudoir photography shoot. When push comes to shove, it really is all about her views and perspectives about what boudoir photography should be about.
You may feel free to put in some suggestions or so but make sure that you aren’t being pushy or being a little bit too overbearing. The subject still gets to have the final say on things that she would like to go ahead with and with the things that she would like to avoid altogether. Being only human, the subject will also have certain insecurities about her body that she will feel a bit conscious or insecure of. Talk to her about this. You need to know what they are so that you will be able to minimize or conceal them when you are taking your boudoir photography shots. The subject needs to be your best friend when it comes to boudoir photography and she needs to treat you like a confidante because she will be sharing her insecurities about her body and that is not an easy thing to do with a stranger.
